DENTAL HEALTH SERVICE
I've made a brief video on what we could achieve if we help one another through an independent Dental Health Service. My teeth4life saved me time and helped increase my income; it can do the same for you. Go to care4teeth.co.uk to see how the current App worked for me. Working as an individual is stressful, but if we have enough members as health advocates, we can reduce our stress levels, improving all our well-being.
I spent a practising lifetime expecting our NHS to fund dentistry. It can't. How can you argue the case through the media when you are fighting for the same funding as childhood cancers? To paraphrase history. Ask not what the NHS can do for you. Ask what you can do for the NHS.
We don't have to be in our NHS to support and improve it.

The DentalHealthService itself is to help those who can't help themselves. I can't fight against the food and drink lobbying who reversed the ban on BOGOF deals, and far worse, we should frame it that they promote obesity, not save money. As health advocates, we can take on Big Pharma and the sugar industry. With the lack of government health leadership, we should be more vocal on UPFs and UPDs, which have an adverse effect on BPEs and BEWEs. The dental team, as a trusted resource, can help promote physical and mental health as well as diet and oral health advice using our current £15 billion resource. Our mobile phones, "Your dentist in your pocket".
This eight-minute video is aimed at the public when we rebrand, possibly as Dr Tony- but I'm not keen. There are few more already HERE.

You can help. I need your feedback and ideas on developing a product that you and your patients will engage in. It doesn't have to be teeth, it's what Apps you use, what you use regularly, what layouts you like or dislike, and what rewards work for you. For some ideas on App content, look at the teeth4life YouTube channel. The playlists, or search a topic of interest. To improve or change any video's audio, search "add audio". I've just uploaded my old video promoting Peer Review.
The next iteration will make it easier to upload introductory videos of yourself for patients who have yet to see you and testimonials for those who recommend you.

No one works well under stress; some studies say our efficiency drops by 30%, and no one considers our enjoyment. A happy team is a healthy team. We must take ownership of our profession when 99.5% think the GDC is no longer fit for purpose. I had a visit in 1985, we need something different. I made this video below about four years ago. Even then, there was software to change the language, so I made it in Spanish as I didn't want to get struck off. This is the English version. It was made on software using images from the text. I only added one image.

I first heard Kevin Lewis in the 80s on how we could make the grey areas within the NHS contract work to deliver prevention. This is his recent article on a well-known GDC case. Read the last line. Every year, the goalposts move, and it becomes more challenging to deliver prevention. Every successful book on management shows how a business works well with feedback. The classic is the aeroplane Black Box. A no-blame culture but a learning one. Just look at the Letby case; if ever there was an indication of how our NHS is failing, it's how the management let down the doctors. I saw Kevin Lewis give a talk last year. As for the public, he suggested a patient contract that was quite simple. "I will not sue the NHS". Now, that would make a few lawyers at DLP available for fruit picking, so it's a win/win.
To continue with this vision, we need to fund it.
We aim to provide a free service to the public at minimal cost to the profession, with no sponsorship outside the dental profession. We will have a MEMBERSHIP and charge those who will benefit the most, and it will be FREE for some other health advocates with minimal potential financial benefit.
Please look at the current version. What is it that would encourage you to use it? Please review the FAQ page and post your questions and ideas there.

Set up your own study group, with a diverse group including others outside the dental field and have some lively debates and fun. Please send me your feedback and requests; hopefully, we will all have a viable product by Christmas. I have had support from UWE on 3D printing and more. If anyone in the practice can access a portable scanner and wants to earn extra money by supporting care homes, as shown throughout the YouTube Channel, please get in touch.
We aim to provide a service for the long term and promote health.
Do you want to help? We will organise our Dental HealthService as outlined 10 mins 30 seconds into the PEER REVIEW VIDEO. We have a website at dentalhealthservice.co.uk that will be complemented by a new App using the best parts from the teeth4life MVP, including your ideas, the more recent advances in digital resources, and incorporating some of the advances in behavioural science.

We will be able to act more quickly with upfront funding. We will have the option for the first 100 individual dentists to sign up as MEMBERS for a year at £150 for the first year and then to continue at £20 a month for the app's life. Once it's developed, it will be £20+ a month. You will get the income from your cart, including bolt-ons such as teledentistry, remote TCOs, access to the 3D denture printing service, notifications, and more. Please get in touch with me directly via tony@dentalhealthservice.co.uk . I will email the 720 registered on the teeth4life App to notify them of future changes as we move to a new DHS App.
We will also provide a platform for larger practices to customise their own App template, which will have a different fee structure depending on the number of users. Please get in touch with me if this interests you and with your requests and feedback. We will provide a series of tutorials and webinars to help improve our service and enable you to keep your site current. There are short video help tutorials on the teeth4life.org.uk .
How can you help? Listen to the most popular TedTalk by Ken Robinson. Is something you say, do, or observe makes your working day easier? Why not share it? The Hall technique was developed and then explained after Norma Hall retired. She was fortunate that she had to leave the lecture on stainless steel crowns early and missed the bit on using anaesthesia. ART was promoted in the Uk long after many dentists had carried it out for years, just not shared their procedure. The DAHL principle was carried out by an outlier based on a single case. On reading Wikipedia, the go-to resource of 70% of young doctors, it is based on five. But you get the idea. My favourite was on a case I was threatened with a complaint a few weeks after visiting the GDC; It's here. under Broadwalk. We should learn from our mistakes, so unlike Big Pharma I'm listing mine.
I made the Denflix website during COVID-19. As a trainer, every year, FDs have less and less practical experience. It makes it extremely difficult for a trainer when their hands-on education is limited. I asked universities for their videos for anyone to quickly refresh on their phone before seeing a patient. Only Dundee were helpful. If you have access to some videos, please share them, and I'll continue with the site. It will be a library for you to select videos for your App. We could ask companies to make 90-second videos explaining their products for you to promote.
I was asked to give a 3-hour talk on MID and prevention on Zoom. It's HERE, with timings to different areas. Twenty minutes is the maximum for any TedTalk for a good reason!

We need to exercise some libertarian paternalism to help all our health, but we need to open our eyes to the importance of experience. Most of my learning is now via YouTube, Audiobooks, and podcasts. This one on behavioural science covers many aspects; it's enjoyable and informative, and the story at the end says it all. Enjoy your work, and keep your eyes open and the space between your ears inquisitive. NUDGE
