Whatever our role in society, it helps if we have an interest and some knowledge of why we do what we do. While many of my patients said " I could never do what you do!" There are probably more who aren't suited as carers, either at home with relatives, on in residential homes. This is for everyone. I have never worked in a care home, but with your feedback and collaboration we can all help develop a Dental Health Service for care homes, and everyone else🙏

There are massive advances in technology, but with human behaviour we aren't quite so quick. However, we can utilise the advances to augment our health delivery. Soon, the AI will produce an accurate assessment of oral health. Anyone with the knowledge on how to use a scanner will be able to scan a mouth, and AI will produce the assessment. We will also be able to provide a service to maintain the current health status of the mouth, and help reduce the incidence of system diseases such as pneumonias. This is the toothpaste I recommend. It's more expensive, but it has the minerals, and adhesive properties to help the remineralisation process that all teeth are susceptible to during the decay and erosion process.

This is about dementia cases, and some ideas on how we can improve care. When anyone has a diagnosis of dementia we need to decide on a long term strategy. Taking a scan of dentures they are familiar with is far better than attempting to mark new ones.

They can suffer from extremely dry mouths, and it can become Mucocitis. its extremely difficult to treat, and greatly reduces the life expectancy. Like all aspects of health. Prevention is the key. There is some more advice here. The elderly in general suffer with dry mouths. More recently we are aware of the change in the protective minerals and flow in saliva that make decay in the roots of teeth more prevalent, and it can occur rapidly. There are some products of great benefit, and others heavily advertised that are unsuitable.

This produce has had a licence in the USA since 2015. It has been used in Japan for over 70 years. Its a long video, but is more a reminder to spark a conversation. Can an oral health champion apply this with minimal training. It is used more extensively in children, but the aim is the same. To avoid unnecessary pain and extensive treatment when patient co-operation is compromised. |

TRAY APPLICATION
If its not possible to get an oral health champion to apply SDF directly on the tooth. Why not use bleaching tray with a resevoir on the appropriately identified teeth? The video on the right explains how. I made the video about 4 years ago. The gel came out in early 2023. |
