General dental advice
Nothing lasts longer than your own teeth.
Modern dentistry can do remarkable things — but after 30 years in practice, one lesson stands out: your natural teeth outlast the best replacements. Here is why, and how to keep yours.
A dental implant is an excellent example of how good — and how limited — replacements are.
An implant procedure typically means a temporary denture and several hours of treatment over a few months, at a cost of around £2,500 — while the natural tooth beside it cost nothing. An implant is harder and more expensive to maintain, it doesn’t “age” with you, and it’s more likely to fail than a natural tooth.
After 30 years in practice, and with all the advances in restorative dentistry, my view is simple: nothing lasts longer than your own teeth. So the best value in dentistry is keeping the teeth you have.
Keeping your risk to a minimum
The advice in the app follows the UK government’s regularly updated Delivering Better Oral Health toolkit — the same evidence-based guidance dentists use. There are also over a hundred short American Dental Association videos, about a minute each, covering every aspect of dentistry.
